Where I am Writing/Notes

In coming to TCU I found it exceedingly difficult to hold conversations with people. My background and previous way of life got in between me completely understanding other students at this school and made me feel as though every conversation I had was all too shallow. I was often asked the same reoccurring questions such as, “Are you rushing,” “what fraternity are you joining,” “what’s your football team,” and things like that constantly without end. This was until I met Ryan. I met Ryan at frog camp in the summer, however we didn’t become close until school had already started. One day we sat down to eat lunch together and were approached by someone that claimed to know me although I had no recollection of him. After he left, I explained to Ryan how I believe being black in a community that is predominantly white had come with certain struggles. This is the first time I voiced these issues to anyone not of color. With open ears he listened, interjecting to validate my feelings and also thanking me for informing him of my perspective because he never understood what that was like. That is the day that I realized Ryan and I were going to be great friends for a long time to come.
A place that I always feel spoken to is on the basketball court. Although while playing basketball, not a lot of constructive conversations can occur aside from callouts for plays and things like that, during the time in between games, before games and after games, I really feel like I can conversate with the other players as we all share a common love for the game. Some people on the floor I will have no contact info for yet whenever I see them in there, we catch up as if we were the best of friends. People often get honest about their lives sometimes as many use basketball as a stress relief or coping mechanism.

Directions to disc golf community site:
From campus, we want to exit to berry and head towards Hulen street. Then you want to take a left on to Hulen Street and begin to head towards the mall. Soon, you will be able to take a right and merge on to I-20 heading towards Benbrook. After exiting on Granbury, two more rights will take you to Zboaz park. This is where we meet to play disc golf. After parking, you follow the path into the woods and the first hole can be found there.
